Week 1 - Day 6

Surprise! Didn’t Expect This Did You?

I know, I know. I said I was only going to do the weekdays for this experiment, but here is the unexpected issue. My workout room currently doubles as my office. Therefore, if I want to play on my computer or gaming stations, I’m down around my equipment.

Why not, then, just workout?

Now today wasn’t any kind of crazy workout day. It was just a 30 minute run. I chose a light run, nothing too crazy, so only a few miles were gained. I didn’t even worry about the pre- or post- workout stretches because it wasn’t really an “exercise” day to me. It was just a normal day.

Meals - Not Today

This is going to be a super short post because I honestly wasn’t worried about meals today. I figured I was going to eat what I want, when I want.

I say that, but let’s examine what really happened.

Breakfast

Breakfast I made my favorite set of eggs and spinach. Had to get that spinach used up since it was going bad, so may as well cook with it now right?

I also said I have a hard time forming habits, but I genuinely liked cooking breakfast every day this week. Some of them were gross, but the eggs I enjoyed. So, why not continue to do something that you like?

Morning Snack

Speaking of things that I enjoy, of course I had a rice cake for my morning snack. I was chilling at my desk, watching TV with a video game running on my PC. 10:00 am came by and we were filling quite peckish. Those rice cakes were there and things happened.

They twisted my arm, I’m telling you.

Then we fell off the rails

The rest of the day didn’t follow the normal weekdays. My family and I went out for some activities and we hit up a a local Japanese restaurant. Remember, I said I was going to enjoy myself and that sushi was enjoyable.

However, even though we went out to eat, I still found myself not eating as much as I normally would. Even though I’ve really only been on this journey a week, I’m already training myself on looking for healthier options and eating smaller portions. I’m learning how I should feel after each meal and making sure I don’t go over that point.

It’s definitely something that I need to retrain myself on. Even after I’ve been on my “healthy” binge for several years, this just feels different. I’m looking more for vegetables than I was previously and I’m learning to appreciate the spices that comes with dishes.

That said, I sort of didn’t enjoy eating out at the restaurant (which is usually one of our favorites). I really wanted to just go home and cook my own food. I’ve gotten so used to making things from scratch that it almost felt weird not knowing exactly what was going into each dish. I know I won’t always be able to cook at home due to life’s circumstances, but once you start cooking every meal for a week, you want to keep doing so.

We will restart the plan on Week 2 Day 1 after figuring out what Day 0 tells us.

(Officially this time) Week 1 is done!
