Week 1 - Day 2
Man, it hurts today
I know I joked that yesterday was leg day, but I’m pretty sure it actually was. Waking up today was no joke. It hurt to even lay in bed. However, I’m determined and ready to go.
Heading down to the weight room was rough. I have go down two sets of stairs and I felt every step. Let me just say that I took some extra time warming up before getting started.
The workout today was cardio and core. A 20 minute “brisk walk or jog” and then 3 sets of bicycle crunches, leg raises, and plank holds. Once again, I try to go full throttle so we still ran a bit over a mile. I was suffering for it, but it got done.
For the first few reps, I really didn’t understand the point of a bicycle crunch. Full disclosure, I had to look them up on Youtube to see what they even were. I’m honestly not sure if I’m doing them right, however I started feeling a bit of a burn in the abs about halfway through the second set, so something was happening.
Today was the first day I did the post-workout stretches. Here’s what I will say about them. I am not a flexible person. The tendons in the backs of my legs do not allow me to bend forward to touch my toes or lift my legs above my head. I’ve never been able to do either, even when I was little, and it’s only gotten worse. In fact, I’m not sure why, but anytime I feel a pull in those tendons (for example, during a forward bend), I get slightly nauseous. No clue if that happens to anyone else, but that’s where we were.
This is the main reason why I hate static stretches. I’ve never liked doing them, I always tried to forget about them. However, if my AI Life Coach is going to tell me to do it, well, I better try my best. So we got them done. Didn’t help my soreness, but they were done.
Breakfast is what?
Breakfast
For the meals, I decided to reach a bit out of my comfort zone and it immediately back-fired. For breakfast, I decided to have a bowl of Greek yogurt with berries and chia seeds. When I used to try and do research on my own about healthy meals and snacks, every person in the world mentioned Greek yogurt at some point in time. It’s supposedly got good things for you and “it’s delicious!”.
No. No it’s not.
I hated this breakfast. It was cold (which I didn’t like), it was gross, and some of the berries were sour enough to make you pucker. I always found yogurt in general to have a really bitter, sour taste to it (probably because it’s rotten milk) and I’ve never really been able to stomach.
Don’t even get me started on the chia seeds. I have literally no idea what they were there for other than to provide nutrients perhaps? This is where I would need an actual person with knowledge to tell me why I’m eating this, but I don’t have that. Just a computer.
Anyways, I finished the thing and felt like I was going to puke for several minutes afterwards. We didn’t (thank gosh), but the urge was strong.
Empty bowl of grossness
Morning Snack
My morning snack was another rice cake. I’m really digging this apple cinnamon flavor, so we’ll probably stick with that. Kept me full till lunch yesterday, so let’s see if it does the same today.
Lunch
Another pet peeve of mine is wastefulness. Especially food. Call it a product of my upbringing, but food should never be wasted and thrown away. Since I made so much chicken yesterday, I decided to make simple salad for lunch. A grilled chicken salad was actually in my menu list from my AI Life Coach, so it’s not like this was cheating or going against orders. What I didn’t do was make it exactly to recipe and used a fat free Italian dressing instead of the balsamic vinegar dressing it actually wanted. I also, of course, opted out of the avocados.
Why are we putting avocados on literally everything?
Evening Snack
My evening snack was a banana. That’s it. Nothing crazy added to it, nothing special. Just a simple, lovely banana.
Dinner
Dinner was leftover baked chicken. This was probably the best option for me because I wasn’t sure if my legs were going to allow me to stand that long while something cooked. I’m not lying when I say I was in pain all day today.
Thank goodness my job is a sit down, desk job or I would’ve probably been in trouble.
Conclusion
All in all, an easy day today (minus the soreness). Hoping that goes away soon, but we’ll fight through it if it doesn’t.
